UNIT 3
LESSON 5 LONDON
Hi guys and girls!
Today I am in London! There are so many things I want to do and see. And now I can’t find my map of London….. I think I lost it. So now I have to ask people the way to places I want to go to. And of course I can look on the signs.
Wow, it’s so busy here. Cars and buses are rushing past me. And when I want to cross a street I have to look to the right first and not to the left as I always do in Holland. That’s really confusing. But fortunately the words LOOK RIGHT and LOOK LEFT are on the road almost every time you want to cross.
Right, I would really want to go to the tourist information centre first. But where’s that? OK I am going to ask someone.
” Please miss, could I ask you a question?”
“Yes, of course you can.”
“Could you tell me the way to the tourist information centre?”
“Oh yes, I can. It’s not far from here. If you go straight ahead here, and turn left at those traffic lights over there. Do you see them?”
”Yes I do”
“Well, if you turn left there and you take the first turning on the right, the information centre is on your left hand side. It’s only a two-minute-walk.”
“All right, thanks for the clear directions Miss.”
“You’re welcome. Have a nice day.”
“You too”
At the information centre there’s a long queue, but I’m not in a hurry. I have to wait for 15 minutes.
It’s my turn now.
“How can I help you?”
“Could you please tell me the most interesting sights in London and how to get there?”
“Well, most people of your age really want to go into the London Eye.”
“What’s that?”
“That’s the big turning wheel that takes you up in the air, in capsules of course. We call it a Ferris’wheel. You can see the whole of London in it.”
“Wow, that’s nice? Is it expensive? “
“It’s 20 pounds. You can also get a combined ticket for the Eye and for a boat trip on the Thames. That is 26 pounds. The boat trip lasts an hour.”
“Okay, that seems like a good idea.”
“Can you also tell me how to get there?”
“I have got a mini map right here. The arrow tells you where we are now. You can easily walk there, it’s a ten-minute-walk, but you could take a bus as well. The number 6 bus, right at the corner of the street when you turn left when you come outside.”
“I can walk. Thank you very much. Bye. ”
