Give In:  Admit defeat.

Go For: Apply equally.

Go Through: Suffer stress, difficult period, etc.
She went through a lot after her mother died suddenly.

​

Go Off: Lose interest in someone, something.
I've gone off milk ever since I saw that documentary on cows.

​

Go Down With: Become ill with.

Listen to that cough of yours. You are coming down with flu I think.

​

Keep To: Stay on/in a mentioned place.
Keep to the London road for about ten kilometers, then head east.

 

Look On: Watch as a spectator.
The firemen tackled the blaze while the crowd looked on.

make of: Have an opinion about something. 

"What do you make of his latest suggestion?"

​

make up for: Compensate for.

"If I work longer the next few days I can make up for the time I was absent."

​

put off: Postpone; delay; arrange a later date. 

"The meeting has been put off until next week because of the strike."

​

put (someone) up: Accommodate; give someone a bed

"We can put you up if you'd like to come for the week-end."

​

put up with: Tolerate. 

"I don't know how you can put up with the noise of all that traffic."

​

Set About: Begin a job, task.
They set about cleaning the house with great enthusiasm.

​

Take Aback: Be surprised.

I was taken aback by her impolite attitude.

​

Take In: Understand, digest information.

I wasn't listening very well and didn't take very much in. Can you repeat it please?

​

Turn In: Go to bed. 
I am so tired, I think I will turn in.

​

Turn On: Attack.
The dog turned on him and bit him.
