UNIT 1 LESSON 2 : HOLIDAYS
The best part of school are the holidays! Long before the summer vacation begins, I always think about where I want to go. I dream of Spain, or the beaches for a suntan in Italy or the Niagara Falls in America.
THE BEST PART OF SCHOOL
Last year we went to Spain by car. When we stopped for lunch along the way, we saw many people like us. It’s fun to share a picnic table with other holidaymakers and hear their accents. There are so many cars and caravans full of people. I think they are all as happy as I am.
These summer holidays we stayed in an apartment in the south of France . It was much hotter than in the Netherlands. We went to the zoo one afternoon where I saw penguins taking showers under a waterfall. That was really funny! I was jealous of the animals which were in the water. We saw monkeys and bears and giraffes. One of the giraffes bent over the fence and stuck his nose in my bag because I had some fruit in it. So I gave him my apple. Then we walked over to the cages with deer, goats and sheep. We fed them some cabbage.
After a couple of hours I told my father I didn’t want to go on unless he bought my brother and me an ice cream. The ice creams cooled us down. The ice creams in France are much more delicious than those in the Netherlands.
The best part of the apartment was the beach nearby. We went there every day. The worst part was that the French didn’t understand English at all. Luckily my mum speaks enough French.
A few years ago we visited Venice. I can’t imagine how the buildings keep standing with all the water around them! People have to walk or use boats. There are no cars there at all. They just step out of the doors of their houses and into their boats! Even little children and old people do this every day.
Italian ice cream is even better than French ice cream. Some are quite original. My mother’s face looked really funny after she tried chewing gum ice cream! Luckily my brother took a picture so we will never forget what she looked like. He sent it to my grandparents.He replied that it’s a better idea to choose strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, mango or pistachio. But I love chocolate ice cream most of all.
When the holidays are coming to an end, I always miss my friends a lot. We saw each other quite a few times during the holidays…..but only on Instagram and other chat sites!!
