UNIT 1  LESSON 4: FREE TIME

THE STREET PARTY

September comes after August, everybody knows that. Everything starts again in September. For example, my mother starts complaining about everything! When I came in yesterday, she was complaining about the mess in our rooms. We all miss the holiday a lot, we are really missing lying on the beach, swimming and reading a book!

Luckily the weather is still good enough to play games outside. I’m crazy about football and spend most of my free time with my friends on the football field. We were also playing yesterday afternoon at three o'clock. We can still swim in the outdoor swimming pool instead of in the indoor one. We try to spend time outside before autumn comes along.

One day we got a flyer in our letter box. It was bright yellow and I thought it must be good news! We usually get these when there’s going to be a fair with fun things to do like rides on a small Ferris' wheel, games and prizes to win . So I ran to look at the leaflet.

On the leaflet, it said that the people living on the street which crosses ours are going to have a “neighbourhood party” in two weeks. My family were not invited because our street has another name! They also asked us not to park our cars on their street that day. They would need all the space for their tables and chairs.

My friend Peter with who I play football lives in that street. So I thought up a plan and told him and he agreed. One day before the party, I asked my parents if I could spend the weekend at his place. Of course they said yes! So there I was, enjoying myself with everyone else – That evening we were eating all the delicious food, we were listening to live music and fooling around with kids my age. We were having a great time.
