TOM AND SAM

Once upon a time twin brothers called Sam and Tom were born. They were identical twins, even their mother found it too hard to tell  them apart during the initial months of their lives. However, they were like two poles when it comes to everything other than their appearance. They neither agreed with anything nor did they share even one single trait!

Sam had no friends, whereas for Tom the world was friendship. Sam loved sweets and Tom loved to eat spicy food. Sam was mommy’s pet and Tom was daddy’s pet. While Sam was generous, Tom was greedy!

As they grew up, their father wanted to share his fortune equally between the two brothers. However, Tom did not agree and he argued that whoever was more intelligent and strong, would gain a higher share of wealth than the other.

Sam agreed. Their father decided to organize a competition between the two. He ordered the two sons to walk as long as they could  and to return home before the sunset. Whoever covered the longer distance and returned home before sunset would get a huge amount of wealth equal to the distance he covered. They were not allowed to take a watch to calculate time.

Both started to walk on a sunny day. Sam walked slowly and steadily, while Tom was desperate to win over Sam and started to run instantly.

The distance they covered until noon would be equal to the distance they needed to reach home before sunset. It was noon and Sam decided to return back to make sure he could reach home on time.

However, Tom, with his greediness to get more wealthy, did not turn his way back home even after mid-noon. He walked two times the distance that Sam had covered and decided to turn back before sunset. He was still a long way from home when the sun turned orange in the evening. Unfortunately, he could not even make it half way home as the moon rose.

He lost the race and was defeated because of greediness!
