If there is an auxiliary (is/am/are/was/were/has/have/can/do/does/did) in the sentence, you repeat that. (+not if necessary and the short subject)
John can’t swim, can he?
He must go now, mustn't he?
When there is no auxiliary in the sentence, you use DO/DON’T OF DOES/DOESN’T/DID/DIDN'T
You love him, don’t you?
Karen writes few letters, doesn’t she?
They never go on holiday, do they? (never is not ever)
We don’t take many pictures, do we?
She took pictures, didn't she?
She didn't take pictures, did she?
Do you remember that have/has/had are not auxiliaries when they are the only verb in the sentence? Then you have to use do/does/did.
He has a nice car, doesn't he?
We have a big house, don't we?
They had a nice day, didn't they?
He has got a nice car, hasn't he?
They have got a new car, don't they?
They had been there before, hadn't they?
